Fed: Qantas job cuts show financial crisis hitting Australia

Deputy Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD says Qantas' axing of more than 17 hundred jobs
is more evidence that the global recession is bearing down on Australia.

She says the government's done what it can to cushion the economy with stimulus packages
and infrastructure spending .. but it's always said Australia won't be immune.

She's told the Nine Network the government can't make people fly internationally when
the countries they're coming from .. like the US and UK .. are in recession.
