Sensors find hurricane had 91-foot wave

An array of underwater sensors dropped in the path of HurricaneIvan last fall has given Navy researchers new appreciation for howpowerful tropical cyclones can be.

Even as it was weakening to maximum sustained winds of 132 mph inthe cooler waters of the northern Gulf of Mexico, Ivan generatedwaves of more than 90 feet, and perhaps as high as 132 feet.

"We measured a 91-footer" on the forward face of Ivan, when thestorm was centered 75 miles south of Gulfport, Miss., on Sept. 15,said William Teague, a researcher at the Naval Research Laboratory atthe Stennis Space Center in …

Shutoff Device Reduces Fire Risk

The FireBag thermal-activated gasshutoff device automatically turns offa gas supply in the event of a fire, preventing explosions and limiting the spread of fire. When the outside temperature reaches the setoff temperature of 203-2120F (95-1000C), the metal alloy that keeps the plug and cartridge together melts, and the spring pressure pushes the plug against the gas opening to close it completely. No fire or heat detectors are required to ensure automatic interception of the gas flow. The housing and finishing are constructed from zinc-plated steel.

Many members of one body: What does church unity really mean? People in the Corinthian church must have winced when they read Paul's definition of 'one body'. He didn't tell them to chop off a limb and send the problem people away

I was standing in the foyer after our Christmas Eve service, when I noticed a middle-aged couple I didn't recognize. I introduced myself and asked where they were from. They laughed, blushed a little and said they were visitors from Millwoods Pentecostal, "the competition."

"No, we're all on the same team," I said. "It's good to meet a neighbour." They laughed and agreed.

Why would people from different churches view each other as competition? Sure, we are different stylistically, theologically, and maybe even in a family/cultural sort of way. There are reasons why I choose this church and they choose theirs.
