NSW: PM, treasurer brief business on changes to BAS

SYDNEY, Feb 16 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard and Treasurer Peter Costello have arrived
at the prime minister's Sydney office to brief business and accounting groups over proposed
changes to the controversial Business Activity Statement.

The Australian Retailers Association, the National Farmers Association and the Institute
of Chartered Accountants are among the groups expected to attend.

The government has been forced to revise the BAS after just two quarterly returns,
following an outcry from small business operators over the amount of time needed to complete
the form.

The meeting, which began at 9.30am (AEDT), was expected to wind up around midday, a
spokesman for Mr Costello said.
